The Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University Library was established along with the University by the Katsina state house of assembly Law No. 7 of 5th September 2006. It was established to support and supplement teaching and research by providing a wide range of materials relevant to the institutional disciplines.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The rules and regulation in the Library are meant to promote the judicious and fair use of Library materials for the mutual benefit of the University community.

However, students are reminded that the following rules and regulations are enforced and enjoin all to abide by them.

Rules and Regulations:

  • No person shall be allowed to borrow any book(s) or any other item until they have been properly charged out.
  • It is a very serious offence to remove/change/mutilate any part of a book or periodical
  • On leaving the Library, all Library users must surrender their book(s) and papers to the Library staff at the entrance for checking.
  • Library users must not attempt to put books back on the shelves.  Once taken off from the shelves, the book should be left on the tables.
  • No brief-case or handbags are allowed in the Library.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited in the Library
  • Silence must be observed in and around the Library at every time.  Noise making, group discussion, making and answering calls, shouting within the Library, playing music on computers/handsets in the Library are strictly prohibited.
  • Reading tables and chairs must not be moved from their positions.
  • Library users should not reserve seats in the Library.  Any seat not physically occupied can be used by another person.

Library users are advised to take away their personal books/papers and other materials whenever they are leaving the Library.

  1. Noise making, Group discussion, making and answering call, shouting within the Library premises, playing music on computer, laptops, and handsets in the Library is strictly prohibited.
  2. Failure to return books on due dates (known as overdue) is an offence.
  3. Book theft and mutilated in any form (Such as squeezing and folding of Library materials, writing, defacing and/or marking, colouring etc (These are all capital offenses as per Library rules and regulations is concerned)
  4. Concealing or hiding of Library materials is not allowed.
  5. Eating, drinking, smoking, chewing, littering, sleeping, reservation of seat, dispositioning of seats and reading tables are also prohibited.
  6. Any act of indiscipline to any member of Library staff will attract severe disciplinary action.
  7. Any act considered by the Library to be breaching of Library rules and regulations of the University would attract disciplinary action.

Students are also advised to see more of these rules and regulations in their handbooks.

(vii)    Caution

Violation of the Library rules and regulations within the system attract disciplinary action against the offender ranging from rustication/expulsion from the University, total or partial suspension from using Library, withdrawal of Library membership, charging and surcharging etc.  This depends on the magnitude of the offense committed.

Appealings and Expectations from students

  1. As a matter of necessity, all students are advised to be ICT compliance so as to enable them follow the suite (As gradually the University Library is working towards migrating from manual and traditional Library services to automation world. 
  2. It is sad to note that some contemporary University students are not willing to read and do not appreciate the reading culture.  In view of this, you are humbly advised to cultivate the reading culture.  The reading culture enjoins you to read every day.  In today’s academic world, your reading should go beyond you lecture notes rather you should widen your ability of reading into other areas of specialization besides your course of study.  Often times, students spend precious hours of their University life roaming and hanging around corridors chatting when there are empty seats begging to be occupied by the users in the Library.  By adopting reading culture certainly your language skill will develop and improve, you will think and write logically, and above all, to excel in your University career for future.
  3. Ensure that you are registered with the Library and protect your borrowers’ tickets and any other Library materials in your possession and return book(s) borrowed on due date.
  4. You are expected to be a good friend of Library by patronizing the Library in the most appropriate matter. 
  5. Students are expected and as well advised to use the e-Library resources for educational purposes only.
